About Skyrim Build Calculator

Skyrim Build Calculator is a free set of planning tools for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It started from a simple wish: to know, before spending a single perk point, exactly what a build needs and what level it will take to get there.

What the tools cover

  • Game version: Skyrim Special Edition and Anniversary Edition, including Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn. The perk trees, leveling and combat formulas are the same as in the original release.
  • Vanilla rules only: mods that change perks, leveling or damage (such as perk overhauls) are not covered.
  • Data: 18 skills, 180 perks with 251 ranks, 10 races, 13 standing stones and 111 alchemy ingredients.

Data sources and accuracy

Game facts such as perk requirements, skill bonuses, ingredient effects and formulas were compiled from the game and checked against the community documentation at UESP (The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages, content available under CC BY-SA 2.5). The perk data was verified against UESP's per-skill totals: 180 perks and 251 perk ranks. All descriptions on this site are written in our own words.

The main formulas used are:

  • Skill XP from level L to L+1 = improve multiplier × L1.95 + improve offset.
  • Character XP per skill increase = the new skill level; level N to N+1 needs (N + 3) × 25 XP.
  • Armor damage reduction = displayed armor × 0.12% + 3% per piece worn, capped at 80%.
  • Weapon damage = (base + smithing) × (1 + skill ÷ 200) × (1 + perks) × (1 + fortify effects).
  • Potion strength multiplier = (1 + 0.5 × skill ÷ 100) × perks × (1 + Fortify Alchemy).
